By Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Rory McGregor

Columbia University School of Arts MFA Acting Cohort of 2025 presents Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play directed by Rory McGregor ‘17.

Ruhl’s epic Passion Play is a triptych offering intimate views into communities attempting to stage the death and resurrection of Christ. Spanning Elizabethan England, to Hitler’s Germany, to Spearfish, South Dakota during Vietnam and the Reagan administration, the spectre of politics and religion is never far from each group of players as they rehearse the annual Easter Passion performances.

Ruhl weaves humor, lust, anxiety, playfulness, disquiet, and quite a few fish to the stage in a tale relived across decades and countries.

“Passion Play (Ruhl)” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
