Dir. Don Bluth, Gary Goldman
1994 I US I G, age 5+
Runtime: 1 hour, 26 minutes

A girl no bigger than a thumb yearns for someone small, like her, to love.  Against her mother’s wishes, she ventures outdoors, and falls in love with a fairy prince. But when she is kidnapped, Thumbelina encounters all kinds of colorful small characters, some who want to possess her, and some who want to help her find her way home. Based on the Hans Christian Anderson story, Thumbelina is a fairy tale adventure from famed animator Don Bluth, with music by Barry Manilow.

NEW - In person activity after the screening

Join us after the screening for a family fun creative experience hosted by Columbia/Artist Teachers (CA/T), School of the Arts professor and poet Dorothea Lasky, and clown-magician-artist Looney Lenny. There will be writing and art activities related to the themes in Thumbelina, and performances by Lasky and Lenny (including magic!). Participants will then break into small groups led by Columbia's MFA Writing students. Snacks and writing supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary, and adult companions are welcome to stay.
