Sharvani, an aspiring journalist from the city, returns to her estranged grandaunt’s village to profile India’s youngest freedom fighter, Baji Raut. As she uncovers how the legend of this twelve-year-old boy is being exploited by the corrupt headmaster of the village school, she and three local women must decide whether to expose the truth and protect Baji Raut or claim their own independence.
About the Playwright
SRUJANEE MISHRA (she/her/hers) is a playwright and poet from India. She has an undergraduate degree in Economics and Theatre Studies from the University of Glasgow. She has worked at the intersection of economics and theatre, using insights from development surveys and projects to write and perform plays for social change in rural Odisha. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University.
